Choose one of your favorite songs and let it do the talking. Meditate to it’s melodies and harmonies as they work together to make something beautiful. Let the sounds vibrate your ear drums and ricochet down your entire body. Let it lift you away from your current place on earth and cover you with calm. It really works. Try it.

]]> http://russds.com/2009/05/17/the-power-of-music-to-create-calm/feed/ 0 Some of My Own Compositions – The Idiot’s of Malibu http://russds.com/2009/01/29/some-of-my-own-compositions-the-idiots-of-malibu/ http://russds.com/2009/01/29/some-of-my-own-compositions-the-idiots-of-malibu/#comments Thu, 29 Jan 2009 16:23:43 +0000 russds-sub http://hebrews11.org/?p=167 When I first moved to Los Angeles my goal was to become a famous film composer like John Williams, or Danny Elfman!  So, when I first got here I contacted everyone I could about doing a score for their movie.  I don’t even remember how I met Tim Ardivani, but he was a young aspiring film director, and needed some music for this short film he made called “The Idiot’s Of Malibu”.  It was basically a short film, that consisted of 2 guys walking along the beach analyzing and sharing their ‘profound’ wisdom about women. It was a cute, funny, little movie.   

I wrote the main theme using a playful, childlike melody to encapsulate the nature of the 2 main characters, while using bongos and other Latin percussion instruments to give it a beach feeling. Once I got the main theme ironed out, the rest just kind of wrote it’s self, and I’m very happy with it.

I hesitate to call myself a drummer, but somehow I pulled it together enough to add some rhythm to this great song about never missing a moment to praise our God. “Praise Him in the morning…praise Him in the evening…praise Him till I’m old and gray”. Another great experience with Mateo.

I put as much passion and 20′s vibe as I could find into this short piano theme. What ended up was a nice little song with a lot of atmosphere that I’m quite fond of.
