Perishable vs. none perishable
“…don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. ” John 6:27
This is a real trick. Living in today’s world, we are constantly pushed to be concerned about perishable things like food and clothing. Most everything we are exhorted to seek after (nice car, nice place to live, nice clothes, nice cookie cut family, etc) are all perishable things. They won’t last forever, and frankly could be gone tomorrow if our number’s up.
Unfortunately spending our “energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give” is often times not very easy. It’s a complicated statement, let alone a complicated task to carry out. Where are we putting our energy exactly? How does seeking out eternal life fit in to going to work in the morning and other mundane tasks.
Well, as is the case with many things, it all boils down to attitude and mental focus. There is simply nothing you can’t do if you are able to focus and guide your mind. Take the following scenario:
- 2 people doing the exact same task: Going to work in the morning to the same place, at the same time with the same life scenario.
- 1 person does it out of spite and obligation for the money he’ll make and stuff he can buy with it.
- The other does it out of service, hoping to improve himself, help others and enhance his company.
Just because of their mindset, focus and attitude, one is seeking perishable things, the none perishable.
